  1. Parishioners with our memorialized tabernacle altar in the Cathedral on the day of the dedication! It is a great reminder that the church is bigger than Fredericksburg! Left to right, me, Sarah (works @Catholic Charities), Donna (Parish Council Chair), Miguel & Betsy (Deacon candidate, parish council member and Hispanic ministry team).

2. Picture of the exterior of the Cathedral facing parking lot! I love the statue of St. Thomas More!

3. Picture of our parishioner, and FredNats pitcher, Travis Sthele, who got the win in the first ever FredNats playoff victory! I won’t take credit for the win, but when he had a full count, I totally blessed him and he proceeded to strike out the side! If you see him at the 8:30 Mass this weekend, give him an ‘atta-boy!

Dear Folks,

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Mary, Happy Birthday to you!
I bet that 95% of you who read that started singing it in your head before reaching the end of the sentence!

Today, September 8th, marks the feast day of the Nativity of the Blessed Mother. Although she doesn’t mind that her Son’s resurrection is celebrated today instead. This led me to contemplate ‘delayed’ celebrations of birthdays.

See, one summer in my childhood, for circumstances forgotten, we did not celebrate my birthday in July.  But I recall me gently asking all summer, “when are we going to celebrate my birthday?” I wanted my orange cake! Eventually, we did celebrate it in September, and the orange cake every year streak was maintained!

I know Mary isn’t in heaven waiting for us to bake her a cake. But we can celebrate her birth as the gift that it is for all of humanity. So have a cake, or donut, or sing one of the songs you love in honor of her. Life is to be celebrated, especially our Blessed Mother’s!

And most importantly, what does Mary most want as a birthday gift? For us to love and obey her Son. Can you give her the gift she most ardently desires?

DIOCESAN GOLDEN JUBILEE PILGRIMAGE

Bishop Michael Burbidge invites you to join him at the final celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Arlington by participating in the Diocesan Golden Jubilee Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event!
