Folks,

Director of Sacred Music Resigns. With great sadness, but trust in Divine Providence, I want to share with you that David Uschold has decided to move back to Ohio to be closer to family.

For nearly seven years David has been such a blessing to the life and worship of our parish family, that is really hard to put into words. Under his direction I have observed growth in choirs, and an ability to teach music and lead musicians that has been wonderful to behold.

Years ago, a choir member commented to me that they love to be challenged to learn new things. I think David has done an amazing job at exactly that! No matter the level of proficiency of the musician, he has been able to contribute to their artistic growth.

David will be with us here through Easter Sunday, and his last day will be Divine Mercy Sunday. So be extra sure to plan to attend the solemn liturgies of Holy Week and thank the Lord that David has shared his talents with our parish family. We will make plans to thank and honor him with the parish, and that information will be forthcoming.

Catholic Schools Week!!! A huge shout out to Dr. Fry and all of our school staff at Holy Cross Academy for their hard work and generosity in teaching and serving the children of our parish. This weekend our students are passing out cards after Mass to thank our parishioners for supporting the school and to celebrate both Catholic Schools Week and the success of our Capital Campaign!

Teaching and living our faith, is at the heart of the mission of the parish, and Holy Cross Academy is on the front lines of this work for so many parish families. I recall one time asking a pre-schooler what she had learned. Without hesitation, she looked up and said, “I learned that Jesus can never stop loving me. His grace is His love in my heart.”

Collection for the Church in Latin America Jan 27 and 28

This weekend we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, diffi cult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers all present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your support for the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our Catholic faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. To learn more about how your gifts make a difference, visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.

Dear Folks,

I have encountered no pain greater than a parent losing a child. And when the child is lost during pregnancy, or at birth, it can be even more confusing and heartbreaking. Recently someone in my family walked the Calvary path of knowing by pre-natal diagnosis that their child would not live long after she was born. Her father was able to give her life, and also give her eternal life by baptizing her in her short life on earth.

Back in January of 2020, we offered Mass for parents and families who have lost children, and many folks said that it was such a moment of grace to be able to grieve for these children. So many relayed stories where folks didn’t understand, or they had been told they aren’t allowed to grieve. Grieving a child lost in pregnancy is a rebuke of our culture’s blind and obstinate denial of the gift of life in the womb. This is why January seems an appropriate time to offer this Mass.

Thus, I invite you to a Candlelight Mass offered for The Unborn and Children Who Have Passed, the St. Gerard Majella Mass, this coming Tuesday, January 23 at 7pm. We have so much to do to build a culture of life. The political struggles for the respect of life mean we must build a culture where baby, mother, and father are all loved and supported.

So if you lost a child, in pregnancy, in school, in college, or adulthood this Mass will be offered both for your children and for you. All are invited to come and offer a prayer of support.

pax,

Father John Mosimann
