Dear Folks,

I want to share this image of the new chapel at Holy Cross Academy with you! This was taken on the day of our chapel unveiling and adoration for the students and the parish with adoration!

Thanks be to God! The chapel is already bearing fruit, as I received this message by email from aparishioner who stopped in to pray on the day of unveiling:

Your beautiful chapel was a source of grace for me just a few hours ago! I was able to sneak in there to finish my 7 Sorrows Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament before picking up the kids. I believe I have some small idea of what God is calling me to do now. I’m sure everything will work out.

Why do I say ‘unveiling?’ This is because the bishop will be coming in September to bless the chapel, and the entire HCA expansion project! So it will be properly blessed at that time!

Also… I thought we had put this in the bulletin previously, but Deacon Leo Flynn (who serves at St. Patrick’s) is leading a pilgrimage to Medjugorje May 22nd to 31st. The cost is $3500 (based on double occupancy). I have some questions about pilgrimages there, and many folks have opinions about the source of the ongoing apparitions. However, pilgrimages are permitted, and I have seen them bear great fruit in the lives of folks who have been. If you would like more details, please email Deacon Leo Flynn at this email leo@theflynnteam.com

I haven’t given up on a pilgrimage this fall to Greece & Turkey in the footsteps of St. Paul, I just haven’t had time to organize that! If not this year then next! And maybe a trip down to Mexico City to visit Our Lady of Guadalupe!! That is also a real possibility, and much easier to organize.

Dear Folks,

Last week I shared with you that we were unveiling the St. Helena Chapel at Holy Cross Academy. The blessings on the Feast of the Annunciation overflowed as faculty and staff gathered for an early Mass and all the students had time for prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day. Adoration continued for parishioners through 9pm with the chapel full of many loving our Lord! “Nothing is impossible for God!”

Walking into school this morning, one 2nd grader said to me, “I have learned the Anima Christi prayer!” There are some big words in there for all ages! That even made my smile at Mass today a little bigger! When we discontinued our parish prayer for Eucharistic renewal (that we said at the end of every Mass for 16 months), it seemed fitting to put in a lovely prayer!

It isn’t possible, or even spiritually healthy, for a Catholic to try to pray or memorize every devotional prayer. However it is good for us to appreciate all, and embrace some of the spiritual inheritance bequeathed to us! Beautiful prayers are one such treasure. Learn a few, and pray them as often as helps you to love Jesus and your neighbor.

Additionally, one of the priests mentioned at lunch a talk given by another young priest in the diocese. The theme of the talk is how to make good confessions, with an insight also, into helping folks who struggle with a hyper-sensitive conscience. So, we invited him to come down and give the talk, “Freedom in Christ” at St. Mary’s, April 9th at 6:30.

If you want to improve your ability to celebrate the sacrament of confession/penance/reconciliation well, I believe this talk will be helpful to you!
