From Our Pastor

From Our Pastor

Dear Folks,

Just renewing the invitation to the healing Mass and prayers this coming Friday August 10th @ 7pm, with the help of the Spanish Prayer Group, we will have a Misa de Sanacion (Healing Mass) at 7 pm in the Church.  The Mass will be a straightforward daily Mass.
One parishioner said to me last weekend, “this is too late for me to go out.  Can’t we have an anointing Mass at a better hour?”  Yes we can (stay tuned for announcements of a date for that)!  And to be clear, this coming Friday, the plan is not to offer the sacrament of anointing of the sick.  It is to pray to pray over and bless anyone who wants to come forward to ask Jesus for healing.  I will try to stay and pray over all folks who come and wait for the prayers.
Since all healing comes from Jesus, we will ask Him directly as the prayers and blessing will be given at the foot of the altar before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.  Mass will be in Bi-lingual, based on how many Hispanos & Anglos come, but all are invited since the prayers for healing / blessing can be in either Spanish or English.
Also this weekend is the Mary’s Shelter Soiree!  This apostolate is one of the most amazing apostolates of women (and some men too) helping mother’s in need have a place and support when pregnant.  This apostolate changes lives for the better.  Thank you to the amazing women (mostly from our parish – pat ourselves on the back) who are the living, hands, feet, and loving heart of Our Lord!  If you don’t know about their ministry, go to https://www.marysshelterva.org/ today!

Novena for Life

Novena for Life

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I invite you to join me in a Novena (9 weeks of prayer) for the legal protection of human life, from August 3 through September 28.
The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and the nomination of his successor have once again engendered debate in our society regarding the need for the legal protection of the right to life of unborn children. Each Friday during the Novena, we have the opportunity to pray and fast so that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. During this time, we must also look for opportunities to educate our family and friends about why this right—the right to life—is paramount.
As part of this initiative, participants may receive weekly prayer reminders by text message or email. In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants will be encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for this protection of human life and will receive important facts about how Roe v. Wade is not health care, is bad law, and fails women.
Please encourage your friends to sign up at www.usccb.org/pray for this and the “Call to Prayer” initiatives. Additionally, please ensure you keep up with the Diocese on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, where we will be sharing resources, reminders and inspirational messages related to this Novena.
With our voices raised to God, perhaps we will one day live in a country that protects the most vulnerable of people, the child in the womb, and that mothers would know of the support and help the Church is ready to offer whenever they face a challenging or unplanned pregnancy.
Know of my continued prayer for you and your families.
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Bishop Michael F. Burbidge
Bishop of Arlington
