Dear Folks,

This week we say farewell to Fr. Holmes. I keep saying to all who will listen, “I treasure the warmth of the generous heart of Fr. Holmes. The laughs and fraternity that we have shared in the rectory of St. Mary during the past two years. Conversations about Power wagons, and Tom Seaver, and Fran Tarkenton, and the wig of Captain Kirk!! For five years, Fr. Holmes has been a welcoming, humorous, and hard-working part of making this parish such a joy. Thank you Fr. Holmes!

And our children just got through the first week of Summer. Is anyone complaining of boredom yet?

One of the greatest conversions in history occurred because of boredom. St. Ignatius of Loyal was recovering from a cannonball to the leg, and bedridden. He was bored. Requesting romance novels, he was instead given a book of lives of the saints. He discovered a love worth living for. A huge part of that was him noticing that in contemplating the life and glory of the saints, that he was filled with lasting peace. Unlike when he filled his time with earthly pursuits that left him bored and empty afterwards.

Fulton Sheen speaks to this when he said, “You will never be happy if your happiness depends on getting solely what you want. Change the focus. Get a new center. Will what God wills, and your joy no man shall take from you.”

Are you bored? Find the love that will never end in the life of Christ.

Fr Mosimann

Dear Folks,
What happens when we go to the hospital and we want communion?  For all of my priesthood, Hospital records would include the fact that the patient is Catholic and we could get a list of the Catholic patients.  Recently, Mary Washington Hospital has changed its computer systems.  The result of this is that they are “using this opportunity to reevaluate how we gather and disseminate patient religious information.”  The exact reevaluation process is unclear, however they suggest that you contact your parish before scheduled hospitalizations or use the Chaplain’s office to be a liaison between patients and churches.
What does this mean??  It is going to be much harder for us to find out that you are in the hospital, at least for the time-being.
Please call or email our parish offices if you know someone in the hospital.  Emails can be directed to Chris with this address:  clanzarone@stmaryfred.org
With the coordinated effort of the parish staff and Extraordinary Ministers, we will do our best to have a current list of folks who want to receive communion while in the hospital.  That you for your patience.
