Behold, I Make All Things New!
Last week we rolled out our theme for this year. This week we started the school year! And this weekend, I’d like to roll out a prayer rooted in our theme, to be prayed after each Mass.
The theme this year came from a desire to draw together the diocesan them for renewal in the mercy of God and the USCCB’s call for a Eucharistic Revival.
It is in the Holy Mass, that the Lord makes all things new. He heals our wounds, He unites us to His Cross, and He gives us His divine life.
As a priest, the moments when I put myself on the altar, to give my life to Him have been the most profound experiences of what it means to be a priest. Jesus wants us all to give our lives back to Him freely. We give Him our lives, He gives us His. Pretty good trade for us!
This is what drew me to the picture we used for the theme, that you might see the Mass from the priest’s perspective, and maybe it can help inspire a deeper appreciation of what, how, and when the Lord makes all things new.
Below is the prayer, which will be in our liturgy programs, and we will get cards printed of it too.

My Lord and my God, you take the bread and wine we offer, and through the priestly prayer of consecration, make them your Flesh and Blood, which was born of the Virgin Mary, hung upon the cross, rose from the dead, and sits at the right hand of Father.
Your body is true food, and your blood is true drink. Renew my heart and mind, in love of the Most Holy Eucharist, and draw all God’s children to your wedding feast.
May the Heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored, and loved, with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time.
Maui Wildfire Relief
Honolulu Bishop Larry Silva recently sent the following letter to dioceses throughout the United States and petitioned the faithful to consider donating to the Hawaiian Catholic Community Foundation, which uses donations for relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts in Maui:
To our Catholic Faithful in Hawaii and Beyond:
Peace be with you! Today our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the island of Maui. As a community of faith, we are called to come together and provide unwavering support to those who are suffering. It is in times like these that our collective love, faith, and compassion can make a tremendous difference. In 2008, the Hawaii Catholic Community Foundation (HCCF) was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation to support our parish and school communities. We have set up a dedicated webpage for donations to go directly to HCCF to support the relief efforts for our fellow community members affected by the Maui wildfires. This is an opportunity for us to show our solidarity as a Catholic faith community and lend a helping hand to those who have lost so much. Every donation, no matter the amount, will play a crucial role in helping to rebuild lives and restore hope. Let us also remember the power of prayer. To help in this relief effort, parishioners may make donations online at https://tinyurl.com/MauiCatholic, or you may put your contribution in an envelope clearly marked with your name and address and “Maui Wildfire Relief” and place your contribution in the collection basket the weekend of August 26/27 or September 2/3. You may also mail or bring your contribution to the Parish Office. Checks should be made payable to “St Mary Catholic Church” with “Maui Wildfire Relief” in the memo field.
